According to tradition, curtains have been used for aesthetic reasons, to decorate space in which they are located, but now they have a big and functional role. Considering that textile production technology and design have improved, as did textile design used for curtains that received great functional and decorative role in one facility.
Functional role of curtains (light and heavy) is reflected through their feature that enables isolation of light, sound, heat and optical effects. Depending of their color, composition, weaving, material design, workmanship (sewing), you can achieve warmth, joy, peace, and also increase or decrease space in which they are placed.
Every interior has its features and demands, as do people who spend time in various spaces.
Knowing that curtain colors, designs, shapes and forms have their psychological properties, they should be chosen according to personal sensibility and life style.
Curtains are being chosen in dependence of the surface they occupy (bigger or smaller), room orientation, architecture style and furniture, and client sensibility that also plays a significant role – as they spend their time in given space. For example: if space is oriented to the north, or is modern as minimalism, or doesn’t have a big open surface, or is intended as everyday habitat, then it would be nice to choose warm and bright colors – tones (beige, yellow, orange, kiwi).
Curtain design implies design of materials that curtains consist of, as well as curtain’s design form and shape. Design should go with space – institution architecture and furniture style, but it can also be in contrast. Contrast can be applied in situation where the entire space is completely stylized and belongs to certain period (renaissance, baroque, etc).
In case of minimalist or high tack style, curtains can contrast it all being design with motives (flowers).
